What is a postpartum doula?
A postpartum doula is there to fill the gap between birthing a baby and going home. Western society maternal support stops after you go home with your brand new baby. All of the focus is on the baby once they are born. Everyone wants to see, hold and cuddle the precious new baby but who holds the mother? A postpartum doula focus' on the mothers recovery and transition at such a sacred time because once you leave the hospital there is little to no information or support on your physical, mental, spiritual and emotional transition into motherhood or parenthood. I take the Golden Month approach where, traditionally, the birthing person stays in bed or at home for a month to recover and wrap their minds around their new role. They are freed of external tasks such as laundry, cooking, cleaning and entertaining guests so their only focus is on recovery and bonding/feeding their baby. Postpartum doulas help with all these tasks while helping you plan for the best postpartum experience possible. Birth is not only about making babies. birth is about making mothers... strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength.

Postpartum doulas are a non-medical service - I provide evidence-based information, pro's and con's, of many facets. Including newborn feeding, sleeping, diapering while assessing the birthing person for PMAD's and give any and all referrals if necessary. All so you can ultimately make the best decision for your family. I am there to reassure, nurture and advocate for your best postpartum experience and sacred transition.
